Nestlé S.A. has agreed to acquire full ownership of yfood Labs GmbH, paving the way for the next stage of the smart food company’s global expansion. The transaction is designed to significantly accelerate yfood’s growth strategy and support the brand’s entry into new markets.
yfood is one of the leading smart food brands for ready-to-drink meals in Germany and Europe. The company currently sells its nutritionally complete drinks, powders, and bars in 30 countries through a strong digital direct-to-consumer model and an expanding retail presence across 18 European markets.
Under the leadership of founders and co-CEOs Benjamin Kremer and Noel Bollmann, yfood has evolved from a disruptive start-up into one of Europe’s best-known modern nutrition brands. Through strong brand building, expanded distribution, and continuous product innovation, the company has achieved sustained growth and increased profitability. In fiscal year 2025, yfood generated sales of approximately €150 million, representing double-digit year-on-year growth.
yfood is now preparing for its next phase of growth accelerating expansion across Europe while simultaneously entering markets beyond Europe. The company’s ambition is to establish yfood as a truly global smart food brand serving a new generation of consumers worldwide.
Nestlé has held a 49% minority stake in yfood since 2023. Full ownership will allow Nestlé to leverage its global infrastructure, international distribution network, and operational scale to accelerate yfood’s growth.
The shareholders have reached agreement on the transaction. Subject to customary regulatory and antitrust approvals, the shares held by founders Benjamin Kremer and Noel Bollmann are expected to transfer fully to Nestlé effective July 3, 2026. The financial terms of the transaction will not be disclosed.
yfood will continue to operate as an independent company headquartered in Munich. The brand’s identity, culture, and strategic direction will remain unchanged.
Following completion of the transaction, leadership of yfood will transition to experienced Nestlé executive Jolanda Schwirtz, who has worked closely with yfood over the past three years.
Noel Bollmann, Co-CEO yfood Labs GmbH, said:
“Over the past eight years, we have built yfood into one of the leading brands for ready-to-drink meals in Europe: profitable, in 30 countries, with more than 50,000 points of sale. The next step for yfood is global. To achieve that, the brand needs a partner with worldwide distribution and infrastructure. The past three years of partnership with Nestlé have proven that yfood scales profitably across borders. We are handing over yfood at the exact moment the brand is ready for the world - and to the partner who can take it there.”
Benjamin Kremer, Co-CEO yfood Labs GmbH, added:
“Our fantastic team at yfood has built a remarkable track record over the past few years in terms of brand development, revenue growth, and profitability - a record we can all look back on with pride. With yfood, we have created an entirely new food category - ‘Smart Food’ - and captured the spirit of an entire generation. This has led to strong growth, which yfood has been able to achieve only thanks to the extraordinary dedication of all our colleagues.”
Sophia Jalal, SVP-Head of Nutrition & Health Business, Zone EUROPE, at Nestlé, said:
“Nestlé chose to invest in yfood in 2023 because we believe in the idea of smart food - nutritionally complete and convenient meals. The yfood portfolio designed to meet contemporary nutritional preferences, aligns seamlessly with Nestlé’s strategic priorities in Europe, and is a perfect addition to our Nutrition portfolio. Becoming the full brand owner will allow us to accelerate its growth story, in Europe and beyond.”
